Three independent ladies

I hate talking negatives so here's a positive person (actually all three: aunt, grandmom, wife) who really influnced me when I was growing up. She is a one special person in my life who probably went thru more struggles in her life then we can imagine to count. She raised 6 children during Korean War and was forced to speak Japanese during the 1930's (not by choice). She is 87 currently and still has serious power left in her. I know she's going to live to 100! I love you grandmom.

Rivera Motel in An Myun Do

This was taken some time last month when we visited An Myun Do which is on West coast of Korea. The building on the picture is apparently a motel called Rivera Hotel, WTF??lol. Was that suppose to be Liberty motel and mispelled in Korean or on purpose? Korea can be so great place to live but there are so many other problems too like bribery, traffic, pollution, and COPY RIGHTS. No regards for other countries symbol or pride. I guess as long as they make money, that's all it matters.

Wow, it's almost approaching end of October... been busy studying mode lately (for anyone that know me, that's a half lie, lol). Seriously, I am planning on taking at least two before the year is up. And its not Microsoft exam.

Also, Mrs and I have to prepare to move next month. We've enjoyed at current place but the new place is even nicer and its brand new spanking apartment so we're looking forward to moving there. Pictures to come...

When September Comes

Well, its freakin September already. Three quarters of the year has already gone by and I guess I'm so riled up because I'm working my third weekend in a row. When I go home, I just want to rest and the last thing on my mind is checking emails or spend more time on the computer (except to check Sports scores, LOL). No worries though... Starting next week, Mrs and I will take some serious time off rest of the year. We will visit all along the coasts of Southern Korea (Pusan, Pohang, etc) and return when we feel like it. Novemeber, we have plans for going overseas although undecided at the moment where to go. It was just one of those bad years where both of us ended up at the hospital near same time and made us realize that we need to 1) get in shape 2) no stress are needed 3) lets enjoy life. Lots of pictures soon to come...

S. Carolina hands No. 5 Gators second straight loss

My South Carolina Gamecocks Basketball team isn't having such a wonderful season as expected after winning the NIT championship last year but its good for them to knock off No 5 team in the nation. Their current record stands at 11-8 now but four of those losses are by combined 13 points. They could very will be 15-4 or 16-3. It's not too late though. They have 10 games left and they should me making a run now. See you guys at the NCAA Tournament in March :-)

Miami Dolphins didn't make the playoffs this year but they did finish with 9-7 record including winning 6 in a row to finish the season. Three Things I Will Do This Year

Last month was very light blogging because of the holidays and numerous birthdays within the family. I must be one of the few that have my own, wife's, mother's, and mother-in-law's birthday all fall in one month. Well, at least I don't have to worry about presents until next december :-) On top of that was the company Christmas party and family get together for the holidays. This year, I will try little more of everything including blogging but here are the three most I will try and do this year: 1. Be a better husband. Be little more understanding to my wife and try to have more patience 2. Work harder at the job. Be more productive and not waste time. Be more understanding of others and have better communications 3. Less drinking and shred some inches and pounds. Eat more healthy foods but most importantly exercise more. I hope all do same^^

I hate traffic like most and I especially hate driving in Korea during the weekends. I avoid all weekends from driving unless I absolutely have to. From this site it says, Motor vehicle registration in Korea increased dramatically from 527,729 in 1980 to 13,949,440 in 2002 due to steady rise in income and living standards, expansion of suburbs, and development of the car manufacturing industry. This is an average annual increase of about 19 percent. In particular, passenger cars saw the largest increase jumping from 249,102 to 9,737,428, more than 38 times. The number of other vehicles registered as of 2002 are 1,275,319 passenger/cargo combined cars, 2,894,412 trucks, and 42,281 special vehicles. Automating a Quicker Exchange 2000 or 2003 / DC reboot

Exchange takes very, very, long time to reboot or shutdown. The problem is caused by the fact that the server shuts down the Active Directory service before it shuts down the Exchange services. Exchange relies rather heavily on Active Directory, and therefore it takes it a long time to shut down cleanly while it is still trying to communicate with it.

RESOLUTION
There are three options to fix/avoid this problem:

1. Shutdown Exchange services by using a batch command, before you shutdown the server.
The following command can be used:
net stop "Microsoft Exchange System Attendant" /y
2. Stop "WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service" service manually, before you shutdown the server.
The following command can be used:
net stop "WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service" /y
3. Decrease the value of "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\WaitToKillServiceTimeout
The default value of "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" are: 600000 and should be changed to lower number. This value should be found by experiments and may impact other services in the system and this change is not supported by Microsoft.
4. Change the location of Exchange database to other partition then system partition.

In Exchange 2000/2003 mailbox manager policies may not process items as some administrators might expect. For example, if you set up a mailbox manager policy to delete messages from the inbox after 30 days, you may find that some of the messages are not deleted after the 30 day window has passed.
In Exchange 2000/2003, in order for a message to be processed by a policy, the age of the message must pass 3 criteria:
Delivery: (PR_MESSAGE_DELIVERY_TIME),
Sent: (PR_CLIENT_SUBMIT_TIME),
and Last Modified: (PR_LAST_MODIFICATION_TIME).

If any of these flags are less than the age specified on the mailbox manager policy settings, that message will not be processed. In other words, if you have a policy set to 30 days and at 29 days a user reads a message that falls under this policy (and hence sets the last modified flag back to 0 days) the message will not be processed after the 30th day because it will fail on 1 of the 3 criteria. It will not be processed until all the criteria are met (in this scenario after 30 more days)

This behavior is different than in Exchange 5.5. In Exchange 5.5, if the delivery time flag is present on a message then no other criteria will be checked. So in the above scenario, 30 days after receiving the message it would be purged.

The design was changed in Exchange 2000/2003 to better accommodate certain workflow programs, journaling and non-ipm.note message classes that would look at different message properties for cleanup.
However, in certain environments you might want to have Exchange 2000/2003 behave the same as Exchange 5.5. This can be done in Exchange 2000 with the post SP3 roll-up or with Exchange 2003 RTM by setting the msExchMailboxManagerAgeLimit attribute on the mailbox manager policy to a hex value of "0x3".

There are three values you can set this to depending on your needs:
0x1: The Last modification time will not prevent the deletion of a message. If the last modified modified date is greater than the limit, the item may be deleted.
0x2: The time that the message was submitted will not prevent the deletion of a message. If the submission time is greater than the limit, the item may be deleted.
0x3: This value sets both bits 0x1 and 0x2, and mimics the behavior from Exchange 5.5.
Note that Mailbox Manager does not ever delete recurring appointments or tasks, regardless of age. You cannot turn off evaluation of delivery time.

Message Default Limit Changes When Upgrading Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003

From Technet Blogs, In Exchange 2003 some of the default settings were changed to tighten security. One of these settings is the sending and receiving message size settings. In Exchange 2000, no default size was set, but in Exchange 2003 the Sending message size and Receiving message size settings for the Exchange organization are set to 10240 KB. This default setting applies to new installations, or upgrades from Exchange 2000 in which no default size was set.

During an upgrade if you have customized these settings, the custom settings are retained. However, the default settings are overwritten. So, if you do not want a sending and receiving message limit imposed on your users, you need to manually change the defaults after an upgrade. If a custom default size is already specified for the organization, the existing setting is preserved.

To change the default sending and receiving limits:
In Exchange System Manager, expand your Exchange organization, expand Global Settings, and right-click on Message Delivery Properties.
Click the Default tab.
Under Sending message size, click No Limit.
Under Receive message size, click No Limit.

Unbelievable VERITAS security hole

From E2KSecurity, CERT is reporting TA05-224A: "VERITAS BackupExec Uses Hard-Coded Administrative Authentication Credentials. An attacker with knowledge of these credentials and access to an affected component could retrieve arbitrary files from a vulnerable system". According to Symantec's page on the vuln, only BE versions 8.0, 8.5, and 8.6 have the flaw. However, it turns out from another update that BE 9.0, 9.1, and 10.0 are vulnerable too. What's worse, get this: to fix the remote agent you have to uninstall the remote agent, reboot, install the new version of the agent, and reboot again. There's no hotfix.

Description:
Microsoft Windows Explorer Web View is affected by an arbitrary script injection vulnerability. An attacker can exploit this issue by crafting a malicious file and placing it on a Web site or sending it to a user through email followed by enticing them to preview it in Windows Explorer.A successful attack can result in a remote compromise in the context of the vulnerable user.

Outlook 2003 Rules May Halt Exchange 5.5

Using Outlook 2003 to modify or import rules may cause the Exchange 5.5 store to halt when it tries to process a rule with a malformed property.
